Let’s just get this out of the way up front… it’s ugly. At first glance, you will wonder how something that appears to be dirty and ugly could be called “soap.” I purchased this mostly out of curiosity because this is what I wondered. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the effectiveness of this African Black Soap, and I will continue to use this exotic soap.
The ingredients in the soap are all-natural and include: cocoa pods, palm kernel oil, coconut oil, unrefined shea butter, plantain skin ashes, purified water and natural vitamin E (listed on the package). The ingredient that most surprised me was plantain ashes. It seems counter-intuitive to use a product with ashes in it to clean our bodies, but the ashes contain vitamins and minerals that are beneficial to skin health.
The package contains two very large blocks of soap that can be cut into smaller bars for easier use. It lathers very well… nothing too over the top, but enough to easily spread over your body in the bath or shower. The smell is difficult to describe but it definitely smells pleasant and natural with no weird chemical scent to it like some soaps have. My skin is pretty sensitive and prone to breakouts but I have used this for a few days now without any irritation whatsoever. My skin feels smooth and hydrated, and I am now a believer in the power of African Black Soap. One thing-make sure that you use a soap dish with this soap since it can leave some residue behind on white bath fixtures. I received this product at a discounted price in exchange for an honest review.
